Lazy Magnolia Southern Pecan

LAZY MAGNOLIA SOUTHERN PECAN

Description and Flavor Profile: Southern Pecan Nut Brown Ale is the first beer in the world, to our knowledge, made with whole-roasted pecans. The pecans are used just like grain and provide a nutty characteristic and a delightful depth to the flavor profile. This beer is very lightly hopped to allow the malty, caramel, and nutty flavors to shine through. The color is dark mahogany. Southern Pecan won a Bronze Medal in the 2006 World Beer Cup in the Specialty Beer category.

Mark is the crazy, creative force behind Lazy Magnolia. He comes up with ideas that often seem to have no chance of succeeding. One of those ideas was to make a beer with pecans. Many attempts at nut-beers have resulted in failure due to the high oil content. Mark was determined, so Leslie designed the recipe to work around the problem of nut oil. Even so, she had very little faith in the creation until they poured the first perfect pint. Southern Pecan has been a big hit ever since.

Pairing: This beer pairs well with BBQ fare, aged cheese, and rich desserts.

Ten Years. Ten Ingredients. Ten Percent. Ten is Lazy Magnolia’s salute to the tens of thousands of people who have been a part of our Ten-Year journey. This is a time to reflect on where we started and how far we still have to go. In 2005, we built the first Mississippi packaging brewery since prohibition. The memory of sitting on top of the brew house for the first time is still fresh in our minds. We had tears of joy, pride, anticipation, and no small amount of terror streaming down our faces. Our hard work was inspired by our love and belief in Mississippi. Many of you have since come together to create a growing craft beer industry and blossoming craft beer culture in Mississippi. Tens of thousands of you have enjoyed our beers and shared your stories of how you discovered craft beer, how we inspired you, and how craft beer has become a part of your favorite memories and improved your lives. We live in constant amazement at the impact Lazy Magnolia has had during our first Ten Years. It seems like such a short time. We look forward to the next ten and invite you to join us in that journey.
